Things to Listen To
Three things for your ear holes today: 1. The latest Access Collective Number 6 podcast has arrived (no Electronic Soup Podcast - I was busy getting married and on honeymoon). 2. The August Ouch! Podcast. 3. Justin Bieber slowed down 90% ish for ambient heads (link via Bill at the Accessible GameBase).

Electronic Soup Podcasts Help Sheet

A help-sheet that ties up the first four "Electronic Soup Podcasts" on audio games and playing with a visual impairment is now available at the Accessible GameBase. It includes links to most of the games and events discussed for further exploration, as well as a one-point stop to grab all the podcasts and available transcripts.
As a side note, we were really chuffed when Damon Rose described ESP as, "the most unusual sounding podcast I've ever heard! Wow!". It's good to be different!

Electronic Soup Podcast: Low Vision Gaming

Part four of the Accessible GameBase Electronic Soup Podcast has arrived packaged up tight with the latest Access Collective. This closes the ESP's on Audio Games for the time being, dealing with Low Vision gaming. Again, this comes in two stylees, a full-length version by Dark of AudioGames.net, and an abridged re-worked version by me.
You can listen to all of the ESP's over at the Accessible GameBase and also at the excellent Access Collective. There'll be a help-sheet with quick-grab MP3 links, list of top 10 audio-games for beginners and Design Tips for Low-Vision gamers to neatly round off these ESP's soon-ish.

Electronic Soup Podcast: with added Dark-ness
Part three of the Accessible GameBase Electronic Soup Podcast comes in two flavours this month, skinny and fatty. Both feature Dark from AudioGames.net, who talks with passion about three deeper, more involving Audio Games. In the "full-fat" version, you can hear Dark play each game, whilst explaining what is going on. I was particularly impressed with Tomb-Raider stroke Prince of Persia influenced, Tomb Hunter: Mysteries of the Ancients. I wasn't aware of side-scrolling arcade/adventure audio games before that.
You can listen to all of the ESP's (including the first time a computer ever sang) over at the Accessible GameBase and also at the excellent Access Collective.

Electronic Soup Podcast
Part two of the Accessible GameBase Electronic Soup Podcast has just been released as part of the "Access Collective". You can listen to it in a variety of ways, or read the transcript here. What's in it? I'm not telling, you'll have to find out for yourself!

Electronic Soup Podcast: Audio Games
The "Access Collective" is a new podcast which brings together a slew of accessibility-bods including myself representing the Accessible GameBase and OneSwitch. No surprises, we're doing the accessible gaming bit. This month's item is part one of two on Audio Games. Aimed at blind and visually impaired people, I found that I also really benefitted from audio games, after getting pink-eye so badly after swimming in strong chlorine, that I couldn't look at my monitor for a few hours.
Like many games that are highly accessible, they can be fun for all kinds of people. You'll also hear just how far speech synthesis has come since the days of Speak and Spell. Listen on...
You can stream or download the podcast at Podbean.com and iTunes, get a transcript here and learn a little more here.

The Ouch Podcast: January 2010
Lovely! I can now embed the Ouch! Podcast into my blog. You can too if you follow Damon Rose's technical tips here (it's a simple bit of cutting and pasting). This month's show...
"Adrian Mole author Sue Townsend has an impressively long list of disabilities and medical conditions. She joins Liz Carr and Rob Crossan in the studio to discuss why she wanted Moley to face death through serious illness in her latest book, his friend Nigel's blindness and her love of the Jeremy Kyle show amongst other things. Simon Minty gives his take on this month's news. Music is from The Fuzzbomb Band, a Brighton based group with learning difficulties and raw punk talent!".
